Update:02/14/08 Julie Estey’s many fans and friends want to know how the rookie musher is faring after scratching at the isolated Slaven’s Cabin late Wednesday afternoon with a bum knee and 11 dogs.
Race Judge Patty Imus reports that Estey’s knee was
splinted and iced Tuesday evening when she arrived with the injury. “It
was not as swollen this morning,” she said from Eagle Checkpoint late
Wednesday night, “but it didn’t afford her the ability to drive a sled
over the ice.”
02/13/08: Yukon Quest Officials in Eagle received a satellite phone call from Slaven's Dog Drop telling them that rookie Yukon Quest musher Julie Estey had decided to scratch from the race. Julie Estey, a local Fairbanks fan favorite and the former Executive Director of the Alaska Yukon Quest office, had hoped to complete her first Yukon Quest as a participant in 2008, but needed to drop several of her dogs after reaching Slaven’s Cabin, which undoubtedly led to her decision to end her race at that location.. Estey is the seventh musher to scratch from this year's race so far, leaving just 16 teams still in the running. Comments (0)
