There is a guaranteed minimum: $25,000 purse for the Tustumena. Unique to the T200 is a policy which allows mushers not wanting to race the full 200 miles the opportunity to enter as an Amateur Class Musher. Unlike the Pro Class, Amateur Class mushers don't compete for a share of the purse; they run only the first half of the race; they don't receive any 'qualifying miles'; but, they have a lot of fun, gain experience, (so do the younger dogs) and see some beautiful scenery.
