Sun Dogs DVD Review
by June Price
Sun Dogs: The True Story of the Jamaican Dogsled Team operates on several different levels. To be honest, when I started the video, I was expecting a bit of a “feel good, happy dogs running to a Jamaican beat” type movie. It’s much more than that. Yes, it has lots of feel good moments, but it tackles the creation of this unique sporting team with honesty and shows the dips in the trail as well as the fun moments. As a bonus, you’ll even learn a bit about Jamaica in the process.

Two paws up...Wow!
This book is loaded with information for fans and the outdoor adventurer. You can't help but dive into this book and visualize the stories Jeff writes about. He opens up his life, his family and his dogs to the readers in a way that makes you feel like you've known him all your life. Excellent writing. Plenty of never before seen photos of Jeff and his family, beautiful artwork from the sketch pad of talented Donna Gates King scattered throughout the book. This is the kind of book you read cover to cover (272 pages) and place on the book shelf for keeps.

There is a new book circulating around the dog mushing community that has fans praising June Price, the author. It could easily be called " A Tourist Guide to the Iditarod".
This books details events surrounding what makes the "Last Great Race" tick. It helps the arm chair musher fully understand the work that goes into making the Iditarod race a success. I often wondered when fans show up to watch the start of the Iditarod each year, how much exposure do they really get. Do they know about the mushers banquet, the restart, the summer picnic?
This book answers all your questions and opens your eyes to the "behind the scenes" in the mushing world. A great find.
Available at Amazon for $16.95.

We are long on shelf space but short on wall space at our house. So to alleviate some of the lack of hanging space for equipment, I came up with a quick and easy pull out hanger designed to go under a shelf. Our space is 3' 4" deep so I purchased a 10' section of 1 1/4' Schedule 40 PVC water line. This is nice and heavy for the job. Cut this to the desired length and used the table saw to cut a slot down the middle stopping 7" from the end of the pipe. I next drilled 4 screw holes opposite the slot to fasten the pipe to the underneath side of the shelf. We counter sank the screw heads.

Hanger pulls out for easy access |
Next I purchased an 1 1/4" 4' dowel rod for the pull out part. This slides into the PVC pipe easily. I used 1 1/4" rubber coated cup hooks to insert into the dowel rod and evenly space intervals with the first one against the back of the slot on the PVC pipe. (NOTE here skip the rubber on the cup hooks just buy plain ones.) Drill pilot holes for the cup hooks. Don't cut the dowel rods off to the length of the PVC pipe, leave the ends stick out for handles. We hang harnesses, ganglines, extra collars, that kind of equipment on ours. I purchased some large carabiners at Harbor Freight so I could bunch the collars and harnesses up to hang more on the hooks.
