Dogsled.com: Mushing news, Iditarod, Yukon Quest, sled dog events

This year an Alaskan school teacher will be on the Norman Vaughan Serum Run. A dog team journey with snow machine support across 768 miles of Alaska's frozen rivers, tundra and sea ice from Nenana to Nome.

Alpenglow Elementary PE teacher Lynda Barcome and her team of sleddogs will participate in the 2007 "Serum Run" from February 18 - March 8. Anchorage School District  families can follow her journey along the trail from Nenana to Nome. Click here for more information

The ASD-TV cable channel 14 will broadcast nine episodes featuring the Serum Run and Lynda’s expedition. The series kicks off with a visit to Barcome Kennels. You’ll learn the history of the run, get an introduction to the route and a “Google Earth” experience before heading down the trail with eight more curriculum-related adventures.

Encourage the families in your community to capture the excitement of the journey and witness the commemorative serum delivery. K-6 students in class and at home can follow along with an ASD Family Activity Pack. The booklet is full of fun interdisciplinary activities, reading recommendations and web resources. Pick one up at your elementary school.
