Four year old Daiquiri had 40% of her body, mostly arms and torso, burned while trying to save her brother, Christopher. One of her lungs was not functioning, consequently she had to be moved to Children’s Hospital. On Sunday, Jan. 13, due to a lack of oxygen, her heart failed and she had to be resuscitated. The costs have been staggering for the family. Any donations would be appreciated.

Update: Jan 24, 2007 - On January 6, 2007 Alaskan sprint musher Kelly Wright's niece, Daiquiri age 4, nephew Christopher age 2 and their cousins Amber and Matthew where caught in a house fire in Eagle River, Alaska, while visiting relatives. Matthew died in the fire and the other three children were in critical condition at Seattle's Harborview Burn Center. Now, Christopher has also passed away and one other child is not doing as well as hoped. The costs have been staggering for the family and any donations are appreciated. If you would like to make a direct donation:
In addition, there is an online auction fund raiser for the family right here on Dogsled.com. Bid on a copy of “Running with Champions,” signed by the author Lisa Frederic and current Iditarod Champion, Jeff King, as well as lead dog, Salem – winner of the 2006 Golden Harness Award – with a pawprint autograph. Please help if you can. The auction has ended. Due to your generous support we have raised over $500 for the Wright family. Thank you! Comments (0)
