The Yukon Quest has asked Wes Rau back by incredibly popular demand.  Wes Rau is an Oregon-based musher, veterinary physical therapist of more than 30 years, and a certified manual therapist. The Yukon Quest is pleased to be bringing Wes Rau back to Whitehorse! Wes' previous appearances received unanimous positive reviews. 


Assessing Canine Injuries with Wes Rau
Friday, Sept 28th 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Location TBA Wes will give an overview of canine injuries, including what to look for and how to identify problem areas. The emphasis is on basic dog care, anatomy and physiology.  There will be Q&A at the end of the presentation.  Wes' approach to canine care is holistic, he encourages people to look at their dogs' physical needs as a foundation for all activities and explains behavioural and performance "obstacles" from a physiological standpoint, allowing people to see their dogs and their relationship with their dogs in a new light and take a fresh approach to their acute or historic concerns. This session is for everyone with dogs, whether they are pets, sport dogs, or sled dogs.  Cost: $20
Instructional Workshops with Wes Rau
Advanced Saturday, Sept 29th 9 -5 p.m. Beginner & Intermediate Sunday, Sept 30th 9 - 5 p.m. Location TBA There is only 13 participants in each session to allow maximum one-on-one time with Wes.  Each one-day workshop will start with individual canine assessment and lots of hands-on work.  The workshop is intended for people with previous experience in canine massage, physical therapy or holistic canine body work. 
WORKSHOP TOPICS

  • Training techniques § Early detection and prevention of injuries
  • Assessment tips for detecting injuries
  • Hands on techniques for dealing with soft tissue and joint problems
  • Specific techniques for common injury areas § Physical examination techniques to search for irregularities in form and function
  •  Analysis of dogs while in harness and in motion
  • Advanced techniques for dealing with specific injuries (as identified by workshop participants). Cost: $159 (incl. GST) - includes individual canine assessment, hands-on work with your canine (full-day workshop) and lunch.

*Well worth the cost.

Auditing Instructional Workshops

massage and physical therapy, they can participate and learn from auditing Saturday, Sept 29th 9 - 5 p.m. OR   Sunday, Sept30th 9 - 5 p.m. For those who have a strong interest, but no previous experience in caninean Advanced Instructional Workshop.  Auditors attend a full-day workshop to watch Wes in action, but do not bring canines to work on.  There is so much to learn from a day with Wes.   • Tues & Wed, Nov 6&7, 6-10pm - painting and binding new trail markers Sat, Jan 19th, 2008, 10am-2pm - hauling straw bales *hard work but lots of fun Sat, Jan 26th, 2008, 11:30am - 4pm - Yukon Quest Food Drop
