michigan-flag A ban on dog racing and related sports/gaming could potentially threaten the viewing of mushing events in the state of Michigan. Senate Bill 0626 is currently in committee and as written could create legislation that would make any viewing of dog races punishable by law with a fine up to $5,000.

If passed, viewers of any websites such as Dogsled.com, Iditarod and Cabela's Iditarod that broadcast video over the internet which are viewed inside Michigan could face jail time and a $5,000 fine.

Maybe they weren't thinking sled dog racing when it was proposed. As it is currently written, it just reads "dog racing", but that definitely leaves room for interpretation.

The latest information posted on this bill is that it is aimed at Greyhound Racing & betting. The legislators are claiming they intend to make the more specific so as not to interfere with Sled Dog Races and other dog events. ie Flyball etc.
I hope our friends in Michigan will keep pressure on the Legislators to ensure the bill protects Sled Dog Racing .
