espy-button In a year of many firsts for mushing, Lance Mackey has become the first Alaskan musher in history to be nominated for an ESPY award. Lance has broken records, survived cancer and overcome many obstacles to make this honor a reality.  Not only does the ESPY award recognize the achievements of great athletes - it raises awareness for the ongoing battle against cancer.  ESPN and the V Foundation use this great event to raise awareness and funds to continue the battle against cancer. Lance would almost certainly agree with the late Jimmy Valvano's quote, "Don't give up. Don't ever give up."

Lance is nominated for the Best Outdoor Athlete

smilies/smiley.gif Hi Folks: I was reading the news article and I think the confusion is the wording. Lance is the first "Alaskan" musher to be nominated. Rachel is from Oregon, hence she is an "Oregon" musher. All in all it is a great honour to be nominated for an ESPY award. I'll be voting for Lance.

Debbie you are so right about the wording. Lance had a year a musher has never ever, ever had!!!! To win the QUEST and the IDITAROD with 13 of the same dogs he ran in both races. Not any 5 time winners nor 4 time winners can say that, everyone said it couldn't be done well, all I can say is EAT MY WORDS! What an incredible ride it must have been for him? Quite frankly I can't think of a more deserving person than LANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH YA I VOTED FOR HIM ALSO EVERYONE NEEDS TO LOG ON AND VOTE FOR HIM IT IS ONE OF THE MOST INCREDIBLE THINGS DONE IN SPORTS EVER!!!
