Patrick Mackey talks with us just before the start of the 2007 Junior Iditarod race.

Patrick Mackey (Soldotna, AK, USA) is a third generation musher. Grandson of 1978 Iditarod champion, Dick Mackey, son of Iditarod veteran, Jason Mackey and the nephew of ’83 Iditarod champion, Rick Mackey and ’05 & '06 Yukon Quest champion, Lance Mackey, Patrick comes to mushing naturally. He says he began mushing when he was nine “because it is fun.” He attends Soldotna Middle School and says he enjoys skateboarding and “hanging out with my cousin, Cain.” (Cain is also entered in this year’s Jr. Iditarod.) He isn't sure what he'll do after high school graduation but says he does plan to continue mushing.
