Shirilla Speeds To Win Day Three of IPSSSDR,
Moves into Second Place Overall
Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA : January 30, 2006

mt_lightbox: Shrilla Speeds to WinMelanie Shirilla from Lincoln, Montana, came in first place on Day Three of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) with a time of 3:29:27. Wendy Davis from Lander, Wyoming, placed second with 3:32:01, followed by Jacques Philip from Nenana, Alaska, in third with 3:38:33. In overall times, Davis leads with 6:46:55. Shirilla, moves into second place with 6:59:42. Philip is third with 7:10:21. Trail conditions today on the 45 mile stage near Green River Lakes were wet and slow. Snow is expected throughout the night as mushers camp out at Elk Ridge Lodge--the only campout during the race.

 

Tomorrow, at 9:00 a.m., teams leave the starting line at Green River Lakes parking lot on a 33 mile run into Pinedale. Day Five of the race begins in Alpine on February 1, followed by Kemmerer/Diamondville on February 2; Evanston/Mountain View, February 3; and then concluding in Park City, Utah, for the final stage and awards ceremony on February 4.

Davis Dominates Day Two of IPSSSDR
Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA : January 29, 2006

With a team of 12 dogs, and averaging 13.8 mph, Wendy Davis from Lander, Wyoming posted the fastest time in the Lander Stage of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) in 3:14: 54 on Day Two of the race. Sam Perrino from Yellowknife, NWT, Canada, came in second in 3:28:41. Melanie Shirilla from Lincoln, Montana, was third in 3:30:15.Grant Beck from Yellowknife, NWT, Canada, came in fourth in 3:31:10. Jacques Philip from Nenana, Alaska, was fourth in 3:31:48. Charlie Boulding, from Rock Crossing Tanana River, Alaska; was sixth in 3:32:59.Following the Lander Stage, the race travels to Elk Ridge Lodge/Upper Green River where the 45 mile Stage begins at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30.

During the week, the race travels to Pinedale, January 31; Alpine on February 1; Kemmerer/Diamondville February 2; Evanston/Mountain View, February 3; and then arrives in Park City, Utah, for the final stage and awards ceremony on February 4.

Mushers Speed through Jackson in
International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race Kick-Off

This 8-day event features 22 teams, 10 towns, two states, and nearly 300 dogs Jackson, Wyoming— Beneath the antler arches of Jackson’s Town Square, 22 teams left the starting line in two-minute intervals during Stage One of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR).The highly competitive field of teams—which included last year's second-place winner Jacques Philip, fresh from a win at Europe's 2006 Grand Odysee, and first woman IPSSSDR winner (2002), Melanie Shirilla—raced through the crowd-lined streets on the three-mile course to Snow King Resort where the Jackson Hole Winter Carnival staged a celebration complete with torchlight parade, dancing, and fireworks. Following the Jackson stage, teams will continue to Lander, Pinedale, Alpine, Kemmerer/Diamondville, Evanston, and Lyman/Mountain View before arriving in Park City, Utah, for the final stage and awards ceremony on February 4.

Lower 48's Biggest Sled Dog Race Begins —The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR), the largest sled dog race in the lower 48 states, will mush out of Jackson, Wyo. as the race begins in a blur of enthusiastic canine athletes on January 27, 2006. Teams from Canada, Alaska, Montana, Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wyoming will compete in the 2006 event. Nearly 300 canine competitors and their mushers will compete in the 8-day race, as it continues to Lander, Pinedale, Alpine, Kemmerer, Evanston, Mountain View, before finishing is Park City, Utah on February 4.

International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race Announces 2006 Date
Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA : October 17, 2006

This year’s International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) is slated for January 27 through February 4, 2006, announced Race Director Frank Teasley. The race begins January 27 with a send-off at the Jackson Hole Winter Carnival complete with a bonfire, fireworks show, music, and food booths, before heading for Lander, Cora, Pinedale, Alpine, Kemmerer, Evanston, and Mountain View/Lyman in Wyoming, and Park City in Utah.

“I’m anticipating another exciting race in 2006,” Teasley said. “From the applications I’ve received, it looks as if we’ll be hosting some of the world’s best mushers once again.”

The IPSSSDR is a popular race on the professional mushing circuit. Taking place between Europe’s La Grande Odyssée and Alaska’s Iditarod, it attracts top mushers who like to compete in all three events. Now in its 11th year, the IPSSSDR has become the largest sled dog race in the lower 48 states.

With its unique “stage stop” racing format, the race stops in a different community each night. Wyoming’s small towns host festivities for mushers and spectators that range from banquets, barbeques, pancake feeds, snowshoe softball, dog parades and ice sculpture demonstrations. The IPSSSDR is limited to 30 teams.
