 The BSSD Student Broadcasting Team started in the Fall of 2005. Ambitious students from the Bering Strait School District began hunting down stories for a live weekly news program. What makes this student news program different from others you may have seen or heard about is the fact that everything from story ideas and research to production is 100% student produced.Their live news programs are broadcast out live over satellite via video conferencing to not just their own school, but to schools across the state of Alaska and at times to schools across the country. We encourage any school with video conferencing capabilities to contact us to be included in the live show. This robust team of students collaboratively works on story ideas, interview questions, shooting interviews, editing the video, writing the anchors scripts, and producing the show. When it comes down to show time they have put in many long hours outside of school getting everything prepared. During the show there are many different jobs that must be filled. The viewers only see a very small percentage of what is actually going on while on the air. What you don't see is the students running the video mixer, chroma keyer, media queue, sound technician, teleprompter, and director. Live from Unalakleet! The Mobile Uplink Satellite Housing (MUSH) is ready to go and the kids have been working hard to prepare for the incoming Iditarod teams. GCI, Apple, Bering Strait School District and lots of other volunteers have banded together to create a live feed from Unalakleet.
