Allen Moore takes the CB300 AGAIN!!! Lucky bib #13. Allen Moore arrives first into Glennallen with eleven dogs with a in time of 14:26 Jan 14, 2008. This is Allen's 3rd win. He won in 2005 and then again in 2007. Allen shares a kennel with his wife, Aliy Zirkle, at Skunk's Place Kennel, Two Rivers, Alaska. Lance Mackey takes 2nd place with only 6 dogs pulling his sled. Arriving at 1452. You just can't say "can't" to that Mackey team. He said " I had 2 new leaders I am trying out and those two girls are in heat. I could have moved Larry up in lead, but then what are these new leaders gonna learn from that?" he said throwing his head back" You just work with what ya got. I dropped four dogs because of a virus going through them, they don't need to run when they don't feel good. I had six dogs to work with. I worked my butt off to help them, we are a team". Lance says with closed eyes, no doubt re-living some of the effort it took to get to the finish line. Lindwood Fiedler, from Willow, Alaska takes 3rd with an in time of 1509. Sigrid Ekran from Norway, is in fourth place arriving at 1526 with 9 dogs on the line and one in the basket. She had taken a wrong turn and had to backtrack to the finish line. She gave those boys a run for their money.
Listen to the audio update from Donna Quante at the Big Bear Roadhouse Update: 13:00 1/14/08- At least 3 mushers have been spotted 3 miles from the finish line. Sigrid Ekran, a musher from Norway who now lives in Fairbanks after getting the "mushing bug", 2005/2007 Copper Basin 300 champion Allen Moore of Two Rivers, Alaska and Lance Mackey of Fairbanks, Alaska. Lance Mackey is down to 6 dogs, he said " I had 2 new leaders I am trying out and thos two girls are in heat. I could have moved Larry up in lead, but then what are these new leaders gonna learn from that?" he said throwing his head back" You just work with what ya got. Four of my dogs I dropped because of a virus going through them, they don't need to run when they don't feel good. So I have 6 dogs and I 'll run as hard as I can to help them, we are a team".
Four mushers have scratched from this race to date.
Update 01:00 1/14/08 - Sirgrid Ekran has it in the bag, that is if all goes well. She pulled away from the group of mushers including Iditarod champion Lance Mackey early this morning and hasn't looked back. "Her team is looking happy and healthy" says reporter Donna Quante at Tolsona Lodge. "It's her race to win". Comments (0)
