Anchorage, Alaska
Robert
Bundtzen was born in North Dakota in 1949. His family moved to Fairbanks,
Alaska in 1960, and then to Anderson in 1961 where he learned to trap
and use a small dog team on the trapline. He attended a one room school
in Anderson and started high school in Nenana. Robert graduated from University
of Alaska Fairbanks and then the University of Washington Medical School
as one of WAMI students. He's had an infectious diseases consultation
practice in Anchorage since 1984. He began seriously mushing in 1993 and
continues to run the Iditarod because of the unique physical and emotional
challenge of running 16 dogs over the beautiful but sometimes dangerous
Alaskan wilderness. Robert says, "success provides me with hard to
describe satisfactions." Robert is aided by his wife Joan and his
17 year old son, Travis, as well as many friends. He also enjoys hunting
and fishing.
