Two Rivers, Alaska
Rick
Swenson, 48, was born in Minnesota. He came to Alaska in 1973 to run sled
dogs. He wanted to run the Iditarod from the beginning and ran his first
Iditarod in 1976. He has raced every Iditarod except one since and is
Iditarod's only five-time champion, having won the race twice in the 70's,
twice in the 80's and once in the 90's.
When asked about his marital status, Rick says
he is "attached." He is the father of three. Rick is a member
of the Two Rivers Dog Mushing Association, and the Alaska Miner Association.
He lists his hobbies as mining, sled dogs and woodworking.
