Ramy Brooks, born in Alaska in 1968, became interested in mushing as a child growing up near the Yukon River watching mushers. He is the son and grandson of well known sprint mushers, Roxie Wright.

Champaine and Gareth Wright. He ran the Yukon Quest in 1993 and then the Iditarod for the next five years. In 1999 he ran the Quest again and finished first. Ramy is a kennel owner, musher and "Mr. Mom".

He and wife, Kathy, have two daughters, Abby, 4, and Molly, 2. Ramy says his hobbies are reading and golfing.
