Thisted, DENMARK
Born
and raised in Thisted, a small town in Denmark, Morten has always been
interested in outdoor activities. After completing his mandatory military
service in the Danish army, he attended Oytun Folkehogskole, a school
in northern Norway, specializing in classes on photography, arctic survival
and environmental studies. Morten says, “A class on dog mushing, taught
by Harald Tunheim, gave focus to my passion for the out of doors, and
I have been working with sled dogs for the past five years.” For three
seasons he worked at the school in Alta and helped Tunheim prepare for
the Iditarod. These experiences and a desire for adventure ultimately
lead him to Alaska and a dog handling position at Goose Lake Kennels in
Denali Park. “Working with Jeff King has given me the opportunity to train
and race some of the finest animals in the state, 16 of which I will take
this year to Nome.” Morten will be the first person from Denmark to run
the Iditarod. He is 25 and single. He says his hobbies are outdoor life,
skiing, sailing, hiking and mushing. Personal
