Sheep Creek, Alaska
John
Barron, was born in 1949 in Texas. His family moved to Alaska when he
was a young boy to homestead. John began mushing in 1978 and ran his first
Iditarod in 1979 after reading about the Iditarod in an Iditarod Trail
Annual. He's run every Iditarod since except the 1994 race when he ran
the Yukon Quest. John says, "I raise, race, train, sell and lease
sled dogs in the wintertime. In the summer, I raise, train and sell horses.
My wife and I live and train in Sheep Creek, Alaska. I enjoy racing and
working with the dogs." John and Kathy have three adult sons, Laird,
29, Jason, 27 and William, 24. All are veterans of the Jr. Iditarod and
Laird and Jason are Iditarod veterans. John lists his hobbies as dog driving
and horseback riding.
