Ennis, Montana

Jessica RoyerTwenty-four year old Jessica Royer was born and raised in Montana, where she worked on ranches with cows and horses. She often worked on a wagon train, driving a team of horses. "My first dog team was a border collie and my Billy goat. I got my first real sled dogs when I was 15 years old," said Jessica. She says her mom helped her and they started "Spirit of the North Sled Dog Adventures" in Big Sky, Montana, a tour business taking people for rides at the ski resort.

Jessica now has a kennel of 30 huskies. She's been running dogs for nine years and has worked with Doug Swingley, Jeff King and Susan Butcher. "I have learned a lot from them and want to continue learning more and gaining more experience." Jessica has had a lot of experience in racing in the "lower 48", including winning Montana's Race to the Sky 500 when she was only 17 years old. Jessica says, "it's time for a new challenge like the Iditarod."

Jessica is single and enjoys horses, hunting, braiding and drawing.
