Jerome Longo was born in Connecticut in 1963. He later moved to Maine to "pursue outdoor adventure". He began mushing in Maine in 1991 and had been thinking about running the Iditarod since he was 11 years old. In 1995, he drove from Maine to Alaska with 14 dogs, intending to pursue his dream.

Jerome has been a chef for the last 20 years. He has climbed two of the world's highest mountains and walked the Appalachian Trail. He's finished the Iditarod several times and says he enjoys working at home with the dogs, all 60 of them. Jerome is single. He list his hobbies as mountaineering, climbing and cooking.
