Fairbanks, Alaska Gwen Holdmann, born in New York in 1972, grew up in Wisconsin, went to high school in Illinois and college at Bradley University where she graduated in 1994 with a degree in physics. She started mushing as a handler for Arleigh Jorgenson while she was in school and moved to Alaska the day after graduation, using the excuse of going to graduate school, but in actuality, she wanted to mush dogs. She currently works as an operator technician for NASA at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and lives north of Fairbanks in a log cabin she built herself with no running water, electricity or phone. She says she devotes all her time and money to her kennel of 45 dogs. Every since her boyfriend, Ken Anderson, ran Iditarod in 1999, Gwen has wanted to run it. She's run the Quest in the meantime and says she and Ken continue to argue about which race is the toughest. Gwen is a member of the Two Rivers Dog Mushers and the Fairbanks Tennis Association. When she has extra time she enjoys sailing and tennis. Comments (0)
