Willow, Alaska
Beth
Manning, 33, was born in Michigan. Before coming to Alaska, she worked
in Montana in Glacier Park and in Colorado where she gave horse back and
hayride tours for six years. She traveled to Alaska in 1992 to learn about
dog mushing and went to work for Susan Butcher. She began mushing in 1992
while she was working for Susan Butcher.
She worked for Rick Swenson for two years before becoming
kennel manager for Vern Halter and Susan Whiton, where she has been since
1995. She will be running dogs from their kennel in the Iditarod this
year. Beth says, “I wanted to run the race because I’ve been helping other
people prepare for the last eight years and wanted to see what all the
excitement is about.” Beth is single. She says her hobby is photography.
