Christmas Valley, Oregon
Buck Church, 59, was born in Oregon and has been a hay rancher there for the last 22 years. As a child he lived in Anchorage, Alaska, where he started mushing in 1953 when he was 12 years old. He says he used to deliver newspapers by dog team on sleds in the winter and with wheeled rigs in the summer. As a teenager, he ran local junior races in both Anchorage and Fairbanks. In 1991, he ran his first distance race, Montana’s Race to the Sky, which he has run every year since. As he’s been running this race over the years, he has become more interested in eventually running the Iditarod.
Buck is married and the father of four, Terrie, Denise, Jeri and Buck II. He says his interests are sled dogs, hunting, fishing and traveling. Comments (0)
