Wasilla, Alaska
Bob
Morgan, born in 1942 in Illinois, came to Alaska in 1988 just because
he "wanted to." He saw his first Iditarod in 1989 and knew in
his heart then that some day he'd run "The Last Great Race."
He's been involved in mushing for the last ten years. He was president
of the Aurora Dog Mushing Club for three years, served on its board of
directors a number of years and served on the board of directors of Aurora
International of Big Lake, Alaska. He has also been race marshal, race
judge and served in other capacities for many local races.
Bob is preparing for his third Iditarod, making this
effort with a hip replacement on his right hip, which has been replaced
twice and is scheduled for a third replacement next year. Bob is involved
in this endeavor not only for himself "but to show other physically
challenged people that they too can take on the challenges of their heart."
This year Bob will be using some dogs from musher Don Bowers' team and
some borrowed from other experienced friends. (Bowers was killed in a
plane crash this summer.) He says the team is "a combination of high
powered, well disciplined, consistently trained dogs."
Bob has been an electrician for forty years and is currently
employed at Alcan Electric. He and Maureen are the parents of eight grown
children and have 14 grandchildren.
