Two Rivers, Alaska
Aliy
Zirkle was born in New Hampshire in 1969. She studied at the University
of Pennsylvania and then came to Alaska in 1990 to continue her biological
studies. She began mushing eight years ago. In her third try, she won
the Yukon Quest in 2000.
She says, "After winning the Yukon Quest, I thought
I would try the 'other' long race." She says she operates a relatively
small sled dog kennel. She feels that maintaining a small number of dogs
is imperative in order to train pups, yearlings and adults to their highest
potential. Most of her dogs' lineage's can be traced back to the original
interior Alaskan village dogs from the Koyukuk River.
Aliy is single and says her interest right now other
than dogs is building her new home.
