About Jlona Richey:
Born and raised in Europe. Jlona grew up in the upper Rhine River Valley and the mountains of Austria. She helped out at her grandfather's photo studio, shooting her first wedding when she was twelve. She also learned all about wildflowers and their preservation from the Bergoma, her mountain granny, who sold pressed flower art in Innsbruck, in the summer months.
Jlona has always managed to capture the spirit of the moment in her people photography and has produced some world class images. But coming to Alaska, she put people behind her, although she will occassionally "shoot" people for album covers and model portfolios. Jlona and her husband Philip have been contributing to dogsled.com for several years.
Here, Jlona captured DeeDee Jonrowe's dogs singing to the crowd at the start of the Iditarod.

I was born in New York City but consider New Cumberland, Pennsylvania my childhood home. While in high school, I attended a presentation on the Naval Academy that included a movie called “Ring of Valor”. It showed Naval officers traveling the world, driving ships and flying planes. “I was hooked." I enlisted in the Naval Reserves and was later selected for the Naval Academy. During my Naval career I was able to, travel the world, drive the ships and fly both helos and fixed wing aircraft. The Navy overeducated me. I have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Education and a Master of Administration. After my retirement (graduation as I call it) from the Navy, my wife, Linda, and I , settled in Ventura, California and ran a motorcycle training program. But a TV show about flying in Alaska awakened a lifelong dream of flying in Alaska.

Josh's Iditablog (www.iditablog.com)
Josh Rogers was born in Alaska and lived there until grade school. During the time he spent as a child in Nome, each Iditarod his parents would take him down to front street so he could “see the dogs come in”. Josh recalls fond memories of Saturday mornings living in Anchorage when his family would go downtown to 4th Ave to watch the start of the race. He and his family moved from Alaska to the Seattle area and for years didn’t even hear about Iditarod each spring.
Then a few years ago, Josh's wife and he moved to Nome, spending their time volunteering at radio station KICY. During this experience he was able to get in touch with his “Alaska side” that was deep inside him. He spent time hosting radio programs and doing news reports. He also spent time studying and covering the Iditarod.
Flying from Nome to Anchorage for the start of the race, he interviewed mushers, attended the banquets, and drove to the re-start. Josh also made a trips out to the western Alaska villages, covering the local aspect of the race. The entire time he was producing multiple reports a day on the progress of the race and its participants to air on the radio, and he was even featured on the television specials that were produced by OLN.
"I stood high above front street in Nome, working from the KICY scaffolding as I watched winners cross under the burled arch finish line. I love the race, and hope to continue reporting on it for years to come, from Alaska and from the lower 48…wherever I happen to be."

Team Dogsled Biography: June Price
“I sometimes think I got someone else’s fantasy,” laughs June Price.
That’s the only way she can explain how she, a Florida transplant, found herself in the situation she is in of having “backstage access” to the Iditarod. Although born in Ohio, June was a middle school teacher at the time she discovered the race. Since then, she has retired and moved to Alaska, where she lives four miles from Iditarod Headquarters.
“It’s all Amiga’s fault,” she says, gesturing toward her collie-husky mix with a chuckle. “She somehow spit out a heartworm pill and came down with them, so I was home researching them on the Web.”
She was also researching huskies. Although she’d picked Amiga from the masses at her local shelter, she thought she was getting a “Lassie Come Home” kinda dog. Turned out, Amiga was a husky in disguise. Far from being a “Lassie Come Home,” Amiga showed far more traits of Balto than Lassie.

Brief history of Dogsled.com
Dogsled.com has been online since 1996 with a mission to provide independent media coverage, community and learning resources for winter dog sports, mushing and dog race news.
Historically, Dogsled.com has seen over 1.3 million viewers in a single month. In 1998, Dogsled.com was featured in a CNN Headlines news feature that resulted in millions of viewers in a single week.
Since 1999, Dogsled.com has been owned by Kevin Kastner and was relaunched in April 2006 as a product of his new company, Popchair Creative, LLC.
